CHILDFUND INDIA- CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

We along with ChildFund India envisions to ensure healthy, peaceful and a dignified and protected life for all its children and youth, especially belonging from the deprived, excluded and vulnerable (DEV) category. With this motif we ensure children are healthy, having access to quality formal and non-formal education, stabilizing the livelihood potential among the youth and their family and also empowering the youth especially the downtrodden neglected female population their overall development, as we think children are the foundation of a society whereas youth are the pillar.

The primary motif is to ascertain healthy and secured infants, educated and confident children and skilled and involved youth focusing on the age group of 0 to 24 years. With 12 years old partnership we grew to benefit over 1500 families and children.

Presently we are working on two district of Jharkhand and one district of Bihar focusing on the blocks of Saraiyahat of Dumka District where 27 villages are being covered, Madhupur of Deoghar District where 25 villages are covered and Bounsi of Banka district where 30 villages are covered benefitting and sponsoring over 1200 children and family.

We have supported and strengthened children to be empowered take their own decision and develop as leaders who shall be responsible for the overall development of the society for which we formed and strengthened child club, youth club and kishori club who are capacitated to be and work as a change agent. Whereas for strengthening the education system, School management committee and Bal sansad members are being strengthened. We make sure each child receive education and so we identify and enroll the drop outs and more than 100 drop out children has been enrolled to school. Where within 5 years 90% of the brain development among the children tends to happen yet the children are deprived off the non-formal pre-school education which is essential for the future regularity and attendance in school, so we have also initiated Balwari centre where the children who are unable to attend the anganwadi are enrolled and provided with quality pre-school education and health counseling. The teachers of Anganwadi/Balwari and schools are also trained and equipped to facilitate child friendly school environment where children learn and explore for the best. We also make sure to advocate for the right to education and also seek collaboration with the education department for the better education system. Simultaneously we are also enhancing the facility of library in schools and also run coaching centre for literacy and numeracy level improvement among the children lacking the age appropriate learning skills. We believe in letting the children free from the conventional academic process and facilitate joyful learning and let them explore.

Youth being the 65% of the population in India yet they are taken for granted in the decision making prospective. Since we understand the need of youth zeal we ascertain to build an environment where the youth are empowered to be the future leader of the society. Youth are thus strengthened for civic engagement and they also participate in the gram sabha as well as advocate for their demand. Youth are not only trained on the life-skill but are also given vocational training so as to strengthen their livelihood and stimulate their scope for employability. We are apart from giving skill development training on tailoring, beautician we ensure them to be involved into agriculture & animal husbandry and therefore we are providing training as well as support for mushroom production, training on new technology agriculture and livestock rearing. The youth are also trained on computer for developing better job prospect. Over 150 youths have received training and some of them made fortune in these fields and are earning more than Rs.3000 per month.

Any development is incomplete if the rights remain unmet. The same is for the children, if their rights are unaddressed, especially that of their protection the child will never achieve the full circle of development. We therefore ensure a protective environment for the children so that they grow to its extent. We work towards strengthening the community based child protection mechanism meeting all the attributes of a community including child, family, institution and neighborhood. We strengthen the Village Level Child Protection Committee, liaison with the child protection stakeholders both from the government as well as from the CBOs, advocate for ensuring child protection in the block and district level especially strengthening the reporting mechanism. Our approach is community based child protection development. Of our constant efforts we have successfully managed to reduce the early marriages prevailing in the community. The children are themselves protesting if they witness early marriage. We are optimistic to make a child marriage free Jharkhand in the near future for which we are also developing a Standard Operating Procedure on Child Marriage which shall demonstrate the quintessence of early marriage related and its responsible personnel for role terminus.

We are thus in the voyage to promote overall development of a child to adulthood.
